Gratefulness or gratitude is much more than merely saying thank you. Words don’t mean anything, when they are mere words, uttered from our lips, and not from our hearts.
– Being grateful is a matter intricately connected with our hearts.
– Gratitude is a true reflection of human hearts.
– Gratitude requires a sense of appreciation.
– A heart of gratitude, is born out of an attitude of humility.
– Gratefulness in our hearts, will help us see and accept, our personal helplessness and inabilities.
– Gratefulness will then, help us, to openly acknowledge the help received from others.
Being grateful is the perfect antidote to pride and ego. When led by pride and ego, a heart is focussed solely on itself. Therefore, it has no room for others in it. Hence, there is no space for being grateful to others.
The LORD Jesus said…
– “45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” – Luke 6:45
David, the shepherd king, speaking from his personal life, has these words for us…
– “1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” – Psalms 103:1-5
So, what is our heart saying about God? How are our hearts? Are we grateful to God for His goodness, grace and mercy? Are we more keen in asking God for more and more? Or, are we being grateful and thankful to the LORD, for all His precious and priceless blessing He had ALREADY blessed us with?
May the LORD help us to be always grateful, and thankful, for all that we have received, despite being utterly undeserving.
– “1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalms 136:1
Even so the LORD help us…to be thankful and grateful.
"If you experience gratitude as a burden, you don’t know gratitude, because true gratitude is not an exertion of the will; it’s an overflow of a sense of being treated better than you deserve."
