Money is an essential part for our living. It helps us buy things, and can make our life comfortable. That is the reason why, the world runs after money. Money in itself should not be looked upon as evil. It is neither good nor evil. However, desire for money has bad influence upon our lives, and can make a man do crazy things.
The Bible clearly states the above distinction, and enlightens us about money, and the trouble with it.
– “10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” – 1 Timothy 6:10
Jesus Himself had explained, the problems with, loving the money. It becomes our idol of worship, and therefore, our “god”.
– “21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”…”24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” – Matthew 6:21,24
The love for money will certainly derail our spiritual lives, and also our life in general. It will have an adverse impact on our relationships, and will, in general, ruin our lives. Let us seek to love God with all our heart. May we use our riches, that we gain, in this world, for the benefit of the kingdom of God, and for the blessing of all those who are poor and needy.
– “33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.” – Luke 12:33
The life that we are called to live, is not just the life, we are living here on the earth. What we live on the earth, is merely a precursor, to the actual life, we are being prepared for. Therefore, it is foolish of us, to lose what is precious and priceless, for something that is, temporary and passing.
– “31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:31-33
Therefore, let us work with eternity, and its blessings in perspective. Let us not run after money, to make our lives “rich” and comfortable. Let us be balanced and sound, in the way we approach towards money, and everything that this world desires to offer.
– “17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” – 1 Timothy 6:17-19
"Poverty hath slain a thousand, but riches have slain ten thousand. They [the riches] are very uncertain, they promise that which they cannot perform, neither can they afford a contented mind."
