Fragrance is “a sweet or pleasant smell” emanating from a person or a thing. It is mostly associated with perfume, which people apply on themselves, that makes them smell pleasant.
The Bible talks about perfumes. Not in a general sense, but as sweet smelling offering [Romans 12:1] and as a live lived for Christ our Saviour and LORD.
– “14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14
The point that we must note is, that Christ, through us, spreads the *fragrance* of the knowledge of Himself, the gospel, all over the world, which is for our blessing, as it rescues and redeems us from our certain death. This fragrance, is the work of Christ done in us. This fragrance is what is seen in our lives. This fragrance is what all our listeners, hear from our lips, in all what we speak, and all how we speak. This fragrance is the works that are visible in our lives. This fragrance is our life.
What is our fragrance? What pleasant smell are we spreading around? Do people smell sweet smelling fragrance from our lives? May we truly be instruments of sweet smelling fragrance, in the hands of our LORD. Even so, the LORD help us.
"A sweet savour of Christ! It does not consist so much in what we do, but in our manner of doing it; not so much in our words or deeds, as in an indefinable sweetness, tenderness, courtesy, unselfishness, and desire to please others to their edification. It is the breath and fragrance of a life hidden with Christ in God, and deriving its aroma from fellowship with Him. Wrap the habits of your soul in the sweet lavender of your Lord’s character."
