As Christians, our works or actions are important. Works do not and cannot save us. There are no two opinions about it. However, works are an essential sign of our transformation in Christ. Hence, works are an absolute essential for us, to demonstrate our faith in Christ, in and through our changed behaviour. This change in behaviour or works, is to permeate all aspects and dimensions of our Christian life.
Christian life is not a life, which is separate, from our daily life. Such a view is held by many, in this world. They say, “What is between God and me is personal and private. It has nothing to do with how I conduct my public life.” The God of the Bible, does not differentiate, between our different dimensions, in life. Whether, it is our private, our personal and our public life, for God, it is one single unit. The new law that has come into play, when one becomes a Christian, has its say, and its sway, over every possible dimension in our lives.
This day, let us look at one of the many pointers, where God wants us to live according to His righteous and eternal standards. Let us read Proverbs 11:1…
– “1 Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.” – Proverbs 11:1
The Word of God makes it absolutely and unambiguously clear, that, dishonesty in our lives, as Christians, is wrong and evil. Dishonesty – lies, manipulations, misleading and misinformation – is always intentional. Hence, intentional dishonesty is intentional evil.
– “1 Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD…”
Just and fair conduct of our lives and all our business – be it personal, private or public – is an absolute must, as an indicator of our faith in the LORD. We cannot display the traits of Lucifer, and claim to be the children of God. Traits of the father cannot be hidden for long, by the children. They would come up, in one form or the other.
– “…a just weight is His delight.”
The LORD approves and appreciates honesty and integrity. Such a behaviour is based on the very character of God Himself. God is honest and truthful. Therefore, He expects His children, the Christians to display the character traits of the Master. Purposeful integrity is God’s delight.
How are we conducting our lives? How is our conduct at home? How is our conduct at our work? How is our conduct with our family and friends? Can we say we are driven by integrity and honesty? May the LORD help us to honestly evaluate ourselves. May we seek the LORD for help to live for Him in a manner that pleases Him, and glorifies Him. Even so the LORD help us.
"Is it not a solemn thought, that the eye of God marks all our common dealings of life, either as an abomination or a delight?"
