Life comes with instructions. The LORD God Almighty, the One who created us, has some valuable and worthwhile instructions for us, and for our welfare. It is worth taking note of, and follow them scrupulously. For there is nothing more important, nor more profitable for us, as human beings, and in particular, as Christians, and the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ, to know what the LORD desires, and to faithfully and obediently follow them.
So now to know, what does the LORD want from us. Here under in Proverbs 6:16-19, we find a list that is worth taking note of. It is a list of things that the LORD abhors…an intense dislike and hate…
– “16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”
Have we noticed, that the list is related to practical and everyday life? God is not asking us to read His Word a million times. The LORD is not asking from us, to walk on our knees to His temple. The LORD is not demanding from us, to offer Him, gold and money. The LORD wants us to honour Him, and worship Him, by our obedience to a practical list, that can be seen and measured, in our life.
Here is the list again, just in case we haven’t caught, the heart of God, in the instructions He laid out for our benefit. God abhors, hates or intensely dislikes certain things, and desires from us, to be, as far away as possible, from such things…
– A proud look
– A lying tongue
– Hands that shed innocent blood
– A heart that devises wicked plans
– Feet that are swift in running to evil
– A false witness who speaks lies
– One who sows discord among brethren
How are we faring as against this list? This is what the LORD God Almighty, the Redeemer who died for us on the Cross of Calvary, intensely dislikes and hates. These things are what God doesn’t want to see in “HIS PEOPLE” – Jew and Gentile alike – for there is only “one people of God” redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God. Even so the LORD help us.
"If you are Christians, be consistent. Be Christians out and out; Christians every hour, in every part. Beware of half-hearted discipleship, of compromise with evil, of conformity to the world, of trying to serve two masters – to walk in two ways, the narrow and the broad, at once. It will not do. Half-hearted Christianity will only dishonour God, while it makes you miserable."
