Gratitude and being thankful is something that beings in our heart. Gratitude is born out of a deep sense of thankfulness within us, when we receive something from another person, in word or kind. True thankfulness is not dependent of the quantity nor quality of the help received. In fact, gratitude is never in response to someone, saying something, or doing something nice, to us. Rather, gratitude is a reflection of our hearts, our attitudes, displaying unambiguously, who we actually are. This is what it is, the gratitude…it beings in our hearts…it begins in us…and it displays who we are…it is about us and our hearts.
The words of our LORD in the Bible, are significant for us, and we have to obey them, with all sincerity, and seriousness. The LORD says…
– “18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS – Everything covers every possible thing, regardless of what we think about it – big or small; significant or insignificant; worthy or not so worthy.
FOR THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD…FOR YOU – Such thinking and attitude toward being grateful and thankful is God ordained and God commanded. We, as His disciples ought to obey the LORD, fully and faithfully.
How about us, dear brothers and sisters? How are we faring on the gratitude scale? Are we grateful for everything? Are we thankful for all we have received? Or, are we constantly grumbling, because we are dissatisfied with what we received, and want more? What kind of heart do we have?
"Every hour, yea, every moment has brought a favor upon its wings. Look downward and give thanks, for you are saved from hell; look on the right hand and give thanks, for you are enriched with gracious gifts; look on the left hand and give thanks, for you are shielded from deadly ills; look above you and give thanks, for heaven awaits you."
