We all must have heard these two words “Honest” and “Truthful” many times over in our lives. Most of the times, it is used to urge and encourage us to be “Honest” and “Truthful” in all things related to our lives. Here under a few verses from the Bible, on being HONEST and TRUTHFUL.
– “5 An honest witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.” – Proverbs 14:5
– “17 He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit.” – Proverbs 12:17
Let us see the definition of these two words HONEST and TRUTHFUL.
1- HONESTY
– “fairness and straightforwardness of conduct” or “adherence to the facts.” – Merriam-Webster
– “the quality of being honest. Free of deceit; truthful and sincere…Morally correct or virtuous.” – The Oxford English Dictionary
2- TRUTHFUL

– “honest and not containing or telling any lies:” – Cambridge Dictionary
WHAT IS HONESTY?
This is what I have gathered walking about in life.
– Being HONEST is, when we speak the truth even before anyone asks us, if we are speaking the truth or not. This is who we are in the very core of our soul. We are honest people in our thoughts, words and dees. Such a state is without any external pressure to be honest, or a threat of damage and harm, if we are not honest.
WHAT IS BEING TRUTHFUL?
This is what I have gathered walking about in life.
– Being TRUTHFUL is to come clean, without any pretence, excuses and reasons, when someone asks us about an incident, or our opinion about a matter under discussion.
Both honesty and truthfulness are the two sides of the same coin. One does not go without the other. Now the question to ourselves – are we honest and truthful in all our relationships? Does honesty and truthfulness form the foundation of our lives? Is honest and truthfulness the core of our character? These are some HONEST, but very uncomfortable questions. It is good for us to answer them TRUTHFULLY, so that we do not deceive ourselves. Let us earnestly pray to the LORD, to help us always be, HONEST and TRUTHFUL in all things, and at all times. Even so the LORD help us.
"17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. 18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. 19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. 20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. 21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. 22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight."
