The LORD, speaking through prophet Hosea, says something that we all should remember always. It will help us in our lives, and will keep safe through the thick and thin of life.
– ‘9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.” – Hosea 14:9
“WHO IS WISE?” – We ought to ask ourselves this question as often as possible. “Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them?” We can personalize it, and ask ourselves, “Am I WISE and PRUDENT?”
– “The wise man will see the message throughout the Book of Hosea. He will understand that in His mercy, God offers a wonderful opportunity for repentance and restoration, and it is dangerous and foolish to neglect that invitation.” – David Guzik
“FOR THE WAYS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT” – We need not have any doubts or second thoughts about the LORD or His ways. They are right, every single one of them. This should be what, that must be running through our hearts and our minds – “THE WAYS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT!”
“THE JUST SHALL WALK IN THEM” – It is of no value, if one knows something as good and right, but chooses not to walk in them. Such people are called fools. We are called not to be fools, but to be JUST – “acting or being in conformity with what is morally upright or good.” [Merriam-Webster Dictionary] Being JUST is thinking, speaking, and doing things like the LORD our God.
“BUT THE TRANSGRESSORS SHALL FALL THEREIN.” – A fool has no sense in discerning what is good, and what is bad; what is right, and what is wrong. Also, the fool, somehow, invariably chooses to do the wrong things. They seems to like the wrong, the bad and the evil, more than the good, and the right. Therefore, “THE TRANSGRESSORS SHALL FALL THEREIN.”
What about us? Who are we? What character traits are we displaying? Let us take a look at ourselves. Let us evaluate ourselves. May the LORD give us the wisdom and the grace, to see who we are. May we be honest with ourselves, and seek the LORD for help, strength and grace, to walk in all His ways, faithfully and obediently. Even so the LORD help us.
"For the ways of the Lord are right; straight, plain, even, according to the rules of, justice and equity; there is no unrighteousness in them; none in the ways in which he himself walks; either in his ways and methods of grace, his decrees and purposes, his counsels and covenant; or in his providential dispensations; nor in those he directs others to walk in, the paths of faith and doctrine; or the ways of his commandments:"
