The unjust man can never be upright, in all his ways. The upright man can never be unjust, in all his ways. The twain shall never meet. The path that is chosen is such that, it will not allow the person to behave contrary to what it is.
The unjust man desires things, and goes about getting them, as and how he wants. He follows no ethics, principles and values. That is why he is called the unjust man – there is no justice or righteousness in his thoughts, words and deeds.
The just man too desires things, and goes about getting them, but he subjects himself to the ethics, principles and values. He wishes to follow them, and not violate them. That is why he is just man – there is no injustice or unrighteousness in his thoughts, words and deeds.
The Bible calls out this age old dichotomy. In fact, it gives us a much deeper and clearer understanding about these two positions, its causes and its consequences.
– “27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.” – Proverbs 29:27
The conflict between light and darkness is something that, we should grasp quickly, and grasp it properly. Commenting on Proverbs 29:27, Charles Bridges explains something, which we should remember always. The quicker we arrive at this conclusion, the better it is.
– “Here is the oldest, the most rooted, the most universal quarrel in the world. It was the first fruit of the Fall (Genesis 3:15). It has continued ever since and will last to the end of the world.” – Charles Bridges
God is upright in all His ways. His children are called to be upright in all our ways. God is light, and in Him is no darkness. He is pure, holy and righteous. In God, there is no sin. God is good to the very core of all what He is. He is always good, and never anything else, other than righteous, fair and just.
Satan is unjust in all his ways. All those who follow Satan, will by default become, unjust, just like their father. Satan is darkness to the very core of who he is. He is the very darkness personified. In him, one can never ever find, even a tiny flickering light photon. Such is the darkness in him. Satan is evil and wicked in his every thought, word and deed. He is always evil, and never anything else, other than evil, wicked and unjust.
What about us? Where do we stand? Are we unjust in our ways? Or, are we upright in our ways? Do we walk in injustice? Or, do we walk in justice? May we always choose to walk on the path of righteousness, and always walk in light, with our God. May unjust means and methods, never ever be even mentioned, in all our thoughts, words and deeds. May we be the true children of God; the children of light, and the children of righteousness. Even so, the LORD help us.
"In biblical context, "righteousness" often refers to living in a manner that is pleasing to God, adhering to His commandments and reflecting His character. The concept of walking suggests a continuous, active pursuit of this lifestyle...Justice in the biblical sense involves fairness, equity, and the protection of the vulnerable. The "paths of justice" suggest a deliberate choice to engage in actions that uphold these principles."
