Prophet Isaiah begins chapter 25, with his personal thoughts and reasons on God, and what he wants to do. They are a reflection of Isaiah’s personal experience and understanding of his God. These words of prophet Isaiah, should surely help and inspire us, to reflect deeply about ourselves, and our relationship with God Almighty.
– “1 O LORD, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, For You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” – Isaiah 25:1
Isaiah’s unequivocal expression about his God has some important lessons for us. Let us see what they are…
1- “O LORD, YOU ARE MY GOD”
YAHWEH is his God, and that, there is no other god or gods, beside the One True God. This is the first of the Ten Commandments. It speaks of an undivided heart. It also speaks of clear heart, that is not confused. It speaks of a heart that is totally committed to the LORD God Almighty.
– “3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.” – Exodus 20:3
2- “I WILL EXALT YOU, I WILL PRAISE YOUR NAME”
Isaiah is clear and completely committed to exalting and praising his God. It is a reflection of what he wishes and desires the most in life. This reflects the Shema, whose purpose is to help the Children of God to realise that, the purpose of our existence is to, love God with all our heart, soul, and might.
– “4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-5
3- “FOR YOU HAVE DONE WONDERFUL THINGS…”
Isaiah has a deep and clear understanding of who his God is. This is why he says – “For You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” Such an insight into God, is essential for a steady and stable spiritual life. When we know our God deeply and thoroughly, we stand on firm and solid ground. It is nothing but, building our house upon the ROCK. The rains may come, the winds may rage and the waves may hit us – but still, we will stand strong, because of God, upon whom we have built our home.
– “25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” – Matthew 7:25
How about us dear brothers and sisters? Do we know our God deeply and clearly? Do we often shake and shiver when struggles, storms and sufferings hit us? How strong is our faith in the LORD? Can we like prophet Isaiah say, that “the LORD Jesus is my God, and I will exalt Him and praise Him?” Even so, the LORD help us.
"If I did not praise and bless Christ my Lord, I should deserve to have my tongue torn out by its roots from my mouth. If I did not bless and magnify his name, I should deserve that every stone I tread on in the streets should rise up to curse my ingratitude, for I am a drowned debtor to the mercy of God – over head and ears – to infinite love and boundless compassion I am a debtor. Are you not the same? Then I charge you by the love of Christ, awake, awake your hearts now to magnify his glorious name."
