If we were to ask anyone in the street, “What is it that you want in life?” In all probability, they would say, “I want a great life, with peace, joy and prosperity.” Who wouldn’t want such a life? Now, what does the LORD, our Creator has to say about us, our lives and what we desire?
– “15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.” – Deuteronomy 30:15-16
The LORD God Almighty is concerned about us and our welfare. He wants us to have a life of peace, joy and prosperity. Our Redeemer laid out a blue print for such a life. God is pleasing with Israel, and thereby the whole fallen world, to choose life, and not death, through His servant Moses – “19…I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,” – Deuteronomy 30:19
– “Though the choice belonged to Israel, God cared about what they chose. When Moses pled with Israel, crying out that they would choose life, he displayed God’s heart toward Israel. In some sense, how God would glorify Himself through Israel was up to them, but it was clearly God’s preference that He glorify Himself through an obedient, blessed Israel. Therefore, God (through Moses) pled with Israel to choose life.” – David Guzik
The question is not, “Would God will help us to a good life?” The question is, “Do we want to have a truly good life?” If so, then we should walk on the path that our LORD had laid out, precisely for such a life. Here under is the breakdown of Deuteronomy 30:15-16.
– See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.
– If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today…
– by LOVING the LORD your God
– by WALKING in his ways
– by KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS
– HIS STATUTES
– HIS RULES
– *THEN you SHALL LIVE and MULTIPLY
– and the LORD your GOD WILL BLESS YOU*
– in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
The key to good life is not money, power and position. The key to good and great life is found in our obedience to God Almighty. To walk in all His ways, faithfully and obediently, is the path to peace, joy and prosperity. The choice is laid bare by our LORD. What would we choose? May we choose to walk with the LORD, in all His ways, faithfully and obediently. Even so, the LORD help us.
"To choose life meant much more than saying, “I would prefer life than death.” It required faith and the true intent of being faithful to the covenant. “Choosing life meant choosing to enter into the covenant with the Lord and to be true to its principles."
