David, writing in Psalm 143:10, and in Psalm 25:4-5, expresses his earnest and innermost desire, that the LORD would teach him to do His will, lead him in uprightness, and guide him in God’s truth. What a wonderful desire! What an amazing prayer!!
– “10 Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.” – Psalm 143:10
– “Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. / Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; all day long I wait for You.” – Psalm 25:4-5
Making observations on Psalm 145:10, Berean Study Bible Notes has these insightful words.
– “Teach me to do Your will…reflects a deep desire for divine guidance and submission to God’s authority. The psalmist acknowledges the need for instruction, recognizing that human understanding is limited. This request aligns with the biblical theme of seeking God’s wisdom, as seen in Proverbs 3:5-6, where trust in the Lord is emphasized over one’s own understanding. The plea for teaching also echoes the sentiments of Psalm 25:4-5, where the psalmist asks God to show His ways and teach His paths. This reflects a heart posture of humility and dependence on God, which is a recurring theme throughout Scripture.” – Berean Study Bible Notes
Learning is very essential for our lives. For upon our learning/knowledge depends our survival, and our success in life. Learning has nothing to do with age. Learning is a lifelong process. Simply put, it is a never ending process.
Only a person with heart of a student, can learn anything in life. Being a student is an attitude of our hearts. Being an earnest student is the essential and foundational mental framework, that we erect, because of which, learning is made possible, in the first place.
A student who wishes to learn has to begin with humility. Humility is the hallmark of all good students. Without a humble heart, there is no learning at all. It is only humility that creates in us, the right conditions for learning. Without humility, any learning is no learning at all. If anything, it would be mere acquiring of knowledge, which in reality, amounts to nothing. Learning leads us to wisdom; while mere acquiring of knowledge, leads us to pride and arrogance, the exact opposite of humility.
The more one learns the more one becomes humble. The reason why we become more humble, as we learn in life, is because, the more we learn, the more we realise that, we actually don’t know anything, in relation all what is there to learn. Hence humility ought to become the foundation on which, we build the edifice of our learning.
Learning builds the person, and in turn the person builds others. If our learning doesn’t help us, to build ourselves, and others, then our learning if any, would be for the contribution of all the wrong reasons, leading to destruction of self, and things around us.
Only a humble person can become a true student. Only a true student can handle all the power that comes with learning. If one is not humble and gentle, then they become rogues and rascals, with immense power at their disposal. Such unbridled and raw power, will only lead to destruction.
Humility is the foundation on which our learning and our growth is dependant. How about us? Are we interested in learning? Are we humble enough, with a sincere desire to learn? Do we desire that, God guide us and lead us, into all truth; and help us walk in His ways? Do we pray and desire like David, that God would teach us, what is needed for our lives and living? Do we have A HEART TO LEARN?
"Man is so wanting in spiritual understanding, so morally blind and ignorant, that, unless enlightened from on high, he cannot discern aright the "way of godliness;" he does not know at any given moment what God would have him to do. Hence it is the constant prayer of every religious man that God will "lighten his darkness;" "make his way plain before his face;" "show him the path that he should walk in;" enable him to see, if no more, at any rate the next step which it is his duty to take."
