Each day, we take a position on every single thing, that crosses our path. We have to take a stand, and we will take a stand. We can says, “Yes, No, May be, I don’t know” – and the list of choices can go a bit longer. What we stand up for, is a big deal, and it displays much more than merely our choice. It tells the whole world about our heart, our attitudes, our moral positions, our intellectual ability to comprehend things, our ability or inability to come to proper, fair and just conclusions. There are a whole range of things, that are put on display.
If one stands in support for something, that is inherently immoral, then it would not be long, before, we ourselves would begin to think, speak, and act immoral, in all aspects of our lives. It is a logical progression of “What we sow, is what we reap.”
Let us see what our LORD had written down for us, in the Bible, in regards to the choice of our decisions. It reveals to us, the heart of God, and what He is expecting from us.
– “3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.” – Proverbs 11:3
– “1 “You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. 3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute.” – Exodus 23:1-3
– “6 “You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute. 7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. 8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous. 9 “Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 23:6-9
– “33 ‘And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.” – Leviticus 19:33-34
– “35 ‘You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. 36 You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 Therefore you shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them: I am the LORD.’” – Leviticus 19:35-37
WHAT ARE WE STANDING UP FOR? What kind of decisions are we making everyday? Is God happy with our decisions? When we see something wrong, do we say, it is wrong? Are we scared to speak the truth? Are we afraid of the consequences, for taking a firm and clear stand against immorality?
– “7 KEEP YOURSELF FAR FROM A FALSE MATTER; DO NOT KILL THE INNOCENT AND RIGHTEOUS. FOR I WILL NOT JUSTIFY THE WICKED.” – Exodus 23:7
What could be perfectly legal, can be absolutely immoral. This is the reality of life. Slavery was legal, but it is immoral. Racial discrimination was legal, but it is immoral. Segregation, on the basis of the colour of ones skin was legal, but it is immoral.
Many who sat in the Church, Sunday after Sunday, never ever raised their voice against such immoral practices. They were silent “supporters” of these legally right positions. How would we respond? Would we have the courage to stick our neck out? Would we muster enough strength to say, it is wrong? A whole lot of things are happening around us. What positions are we taking? What stand are we taking? WHAT ARE WE STANDING UP FOR?
Discrimination based on gender, caste, economic status, social standing, nationality, ethnicity, religion, region, and language are also immoral, to the very core. The God of the Bible detests such things. Our God abhors them. What about you and me?
May we earnestly and impartially seek for truth, and stand for it always. May we diligently and passionately search for truth. May we always choose to stand for truth. May we always speak the truth. May we always love the truth. Even so the LORD help us.
"'for I will not acquit the guilty' [Exodus 23:7b] - ...reveals God's character as a just judge who holds individuals accountable for their actions. The assurance that God will not acquit the guilty serves as a warning against injustice and a comfort to those who suffer wrongfully. In the broader biblical narrative, God's justice is a recurring theme, as seen in passages like Deuteronomy 32:4, which describes God as a "God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is He." This...assures that while human justice may falter, divine justice will ultimately prevail."
