The account of human fall, recorded for us, in Genesis chapter three, is a revealing incident, of our “transformed” hearts, and how we have taken to lies, and clever manipulations of the truth, where were speak the facts, but do not tell the truth. The essence and the nature of what evil is – Lucifer the father of lies.
By our sin and the rebellion, we have rejected God, our Creator, as our Father, and have accepted Lucifer, to be our father. Hence, it is but natural for us, as Lucifer’s children, to adapt his thinking, and his attitudes. What a fall it was, and the effects of which, it still continues.
Let us read from Genesis 3:8-13 and see for ourselves, the changed human heart, and we becoming, the children of Satan, and adapting his ways and means.
– “8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” – Genesis 3:8-13
The incident from Genesis chapter three, tells us about, the changed human nature. Let us look at – “Effects of sin and rebellion upon us” – for our meditation, this morning.
What was the daily routine till then, an eager and pleasant expectation to meet God, has now become, a dread. Fear has taken control, and it is dictating Adam and Eve, how to conduct their lives.
The first effect of sin upon us is, our separation from God. God is Light, and evil Lucifer is darkness. Darkness cannot reside where there is light. Sin and rebellion instil the dread or fear of God. We see clearly, fear and dread has crept into the hearts of Adam and Eve – and by effect, into our hearts too. Earlier it was love that reigned in their hearts, but now, it is fear and dread. The Bible says…
– “8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid…” – Genesis 3:8-10a
– “18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” – 1 John 4:18
– Sin separates us from God, our Creator. This is but, the natural consequence of sin.
– Sin is the darkest of darkness, and it is evil – the very nature of Lucifer, the fallen angel. The very core of evil is darkness. This is now the nature of man.
– Sin instils in the sinner, a fear and dread, that doesn’t want to be in the presence of God. Instead, it wants to run away, as far as possible from God.
– Sin hates righteousness. Sin doesn’t want to do anything with godly righteousness.
– Sin is rebellious in nature, wanting to do whatever it wants, and whenever it wants – the way of Satan – the Broadway. Righteousness is the godly way of living, doing all things the right way – the way of God – the Narrow way.
The darkness that overshadows the sinner, takes control of him, and his nature. It hates light, which is God. The hate for Light is birthed in us, because we have now become the children of darkness – the children of Lucifer. Since Satan is the father of lies, we now have become, the children of our father, Satan. Thus, lies come naturally to us, just as it comes to our father Lucifer.
How are we this morning? Do we dread God? Are we running away from God? Do we lie? Do we want to hide ourselves in the bushes? Are we eager to meet God? Are we happy and elated to hear His voice? What is our spiritual health condition this morning?
May we eagerly seek the LORD, to help us, and guide us, to walk with Him always. May we ask God to help us think, speak and do things, the way He does. Let us desire to walk in His way, the Narrow way…always. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Adam and Eve's attempt to hide signifies the immediate impact of sin, which is separation from God. This act of hiding reflects guilt and shame, emotions that were absent before the fall. Theologically, it illustrates the human tendency to flee from God when confronted with sin, a theme echoed throughout Scripture, such as in Jonah's flight from God's command."
