Many times, as we walk on this road called life, we are not very sure, and are confused. As Christians, we encounter times of struggles and storms. At such times, we seem to be completely lost, just like the disciples in the boat, who were struck in a terrible storm – Mark 4:35-41. Meanwhile, Jesus, our Master, who is our Provider and Protector, seems to us, as fast asleep in the stern of the boat, on a pillow, and utterly unconcerned about us, and our lives.
The apostle Paul, who saw many seasons as a Christian, and is at the end of his life, awaiting his certain death, has these words for the young Church at Philippi. The words of Paul, give us a deeper insight into WHO our God is, and HOW He works.
– “6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6
These words of Paul, help us understand that, God never abandons His people. We can further note from the Word of God, that, it is not in His nature, to abandon things halfway. If the LORD has begun a work in us, He will completely it for sure, and then, He Himself will declare, “it is good” just as He did in the Garden of Eden.
– “Where is there an instance of God’s beginning any work and leaving it incomplete? Show me for once a world abandoned and thrown aside half formed; show me a universe cast off from the Great Potter’s wheel, with the design in outline, the clay half hardened, and the form unshapely from incompleteness.” – Charles H. Spurgeon
Let us have no doubts and concerns. The same applies to the work that God has begun in us. He will complete the work of transformation, as part of our reception. He will bring it to a proper completion. Meanwhile, let us hold on to the LORD. Let us yield ourselves to Him. Let us walk by faith, trusting God to do His work in us. Let us be obedient to Him, in all things, as is fit for anyone, who calls himself a Christian. “BEING CONFIDENT OF THIS VERY THING” – even so, the LORD help us.
"The work of grace has its root in the divine goodness of the Father, it is planted by the self-denying goodness of the Son, and it is daily watered by the goodness of the Holy Sprit; it springs from good and leads to good, and so is altogether good."
