A Christian’s approach to life and the living, should be like the apostle Paul. What inspired words did the apostle write in Philippians 1:20-21, which should inspire us, even today, about Christian life and living. The words of Paul speaks about his heart, and about all what he earnestly desired.
– “20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” – Philippians 1:20-21
The reason why Paul possessed, such a state of mind is, his deep understanding of who God is. He was at perfect peace, the peace which passeth all human understanding. Paul had seen many a rough season, fraught with tough and testing times – 2 Corinthians 11:24-28. Such seasons had helped shape his strong character, and his deep faith. His trials and tribulations had helped him gain the ability, to keep focussed on God’s goodness, graciousness and immutability, despite all what was happening in and around him. If we realise the situation in which Paul was, and the essence of the epistle to the Philippians, we will understand, Paul’s spiritual growth, maturity and stability.
– “4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. “ – Philippians 4:4-7
The above reasons are the basis on which Paul confidently declares to his readers, including us, even today, the steadfastness of God, and the trustworthiness of the LORD, in all what He had promised to those, who truly belong to Him.
– “6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6
God Almighty, who called us out of darkness, into His marvellous light, will perfect that which concerns us, and will bring it to the desired completion, in His time, and in His ways. We need not be concerned about anything, nor be worried about, what would happen to us, tomorrow. If we know our God, and truly trust Him, then no storm should trouble us. Yes it can shake us, depending upon our spiritual understanding and maturity. However, as we grow in the LORD, by reading His Word, and meditating upon it, night and day, we will surely grow up into matured Christians, who can go through the storm, yet, not lose our faith in God.
– “6 Be strong and of a good courage…7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” – Joshua 1:6-9
Even so the LORD help us.
"'[HE] will carry it on to completion’ - This phrase underscores God's commitment to finish what He starts. It reflects the biblical principle that God is both the author and finisher of faith (Hebrews 12:2). The assurance of completion provides comfort and motivation for believers to persevere, knowing that their spiritual journey is under divine guidance."
