One of my favourite songs in Hindi is “तेरा प्यार है महान” – which means “Your love is great.” It is a beautiful song that speaks about all what God has done for us, and how the grateful Christian responds to this unmerited love, grace and mercy. That is why the title, तूने मेरे लिये क्या कुछ न किया – What all have you not done for me LORD!!! which is one of the lines of the song.
I like this song not just because of its lyrics, which are written well, but also the melody, which is very well composed. Here is a part of the song. Forgive me dear friends who don’t know Hindi. The English translation is a very bland version of the original.
Your love is great, Your love is [my] world
I was once a dead person
You put life into me
Why would I not sing praises to You
Why would I not shout praises to You
Shouts of praises, shouts of joy
What all have you not done for me LORD!!!
Let me pick two lines from the above lyrics of the song, for our meditation this morning.
– What all have you not done for me LORD!!!
A Christian is joyful and content, only when we focus on all what we have received from God. We received blessings from God, not because it is our right, nor that we deserve them. Honestly speaking, we do not deserve anything from God. Rather, we deserve death, for all what we have done, and are capable of doing. Yet, God out of His abundant love, grace and mercy, has given us life.
– “22…For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus….23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 3:22-26;6:23
When we think on these biblically sound lines, then praise and thanks would flow freely, out of our grateful hearts.
Why would I not shout Your Praises!!!
When we see all what God had done for undeserving people like us, then, why would I not shout God’s praises, all the days of my life? When we walk this path, we would not have any dearth of reasons, to praise and thank God, all the days of our lives. When we recognise all what we are blessed with, then there would be no requests to pray for.
Why would it be so? We know that, God would provide all what we need. Hence, we don’t need to ask God. Please bear in mind, I am not suggesting that, prayer for our needs is not needed or wrong. When we realise and recognise all what we have received, from the hands of a gracious God, unasked; then we would trust Him to provide, all what we need, in the future too. Isn’t this what the Word of God says?
– “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose…31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” – Romans 8:28,31-32
Therefore, dear brothers and sister, let us come before our God, this Sunday morning, with thankful and grateful hearts. May praise and thanks, freely flow out of our realisation of God’s goodness, grace, and mercy towards us, the utterly undeserving people, bound to hell, death and destruction. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Gratitude is more than just saying “thank you” to God for the good things that come our way. It is a way of life, a constant recognition of His abundant blessings in both the big and the small. It is an attitude that permeates our thoughts, words, and actions, shaping our perspective on the world. When we cultivate an attitude of gratitude, we become aware of the countless ways in which Jesus is at work in our lives, even amid challenges and difficulties."
