David who wrote many Psalms in the Bible, has so much to teach us through those Psalms, even though he lived almost 3000 years ago. Let us read Psalm 13:6 for our meditation this morning, and see what we can learn from these words from the Bible.
– “6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.” – Psalm 13:6
There are two statements made by David in this verse. Firstly – “I WILL SING UNTO THE LORD” and secondly – “BECAUSE HE HATH DEALT BOUNTIFULLY WITH ME.” Let us look at them one after the other.
– “I WILL SING UNTO THE LORD”
Here in this statement, we see David making an intentional decision. He has decided to sing to the LORD. We see this pattern with David – he has the habit of singing to the LORD his God. When we consider the other Psalms that David wrote, we know that they are not merely some joyful songs, that he desires to sing. They are his own songs, born in the depths of his heart. They are songs of praises; songs of joy; songs of gratitude; songs of thanks to the LORD God Almighty, his everything.
We know from the preceding verses of Psalm 13, exactly what David’s situation is. He is in deep pain and anguish. He is crying out to his God because of trials and troubles that have surrounded him.
– “1 How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? 2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?” – Psalm 13:1-2
In verses 3-4 we see the tears filled, passionate prayer of David, to the LORD. This gives a glimpse of his problems and his situation; his faith and trust in God, which clearly indicates to us, David’s mental fortitude, and the source of all his strength.
– “3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; 4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.” – Psalm 13:3-4
Would we be singing praise to our God, when we are suffering, and in anguish and pain? What does it teach us? What does it tells us about David and his spiritual condition? It teachers us…
1- TO PRAISE AND THANK GOD AT ALL TIMES
– “16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. “ – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
2- THAT ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR OUR GOOD
– “28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
3- THAT GOD WILL ALWAYS WALK BESIDE US, AND NEVER ABANDON US
– “6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
4- THAT GOD HAS PROVED IN GIVING JESUS, THAT HE TRULY CARES FOR OUR WELFARE
– “31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” – Romans 8:31-32
– “BECAUSE HE HATH DEALT BOUNTIFULLY WITH ME”
David gives us the reason for his songs of praise, in the second part of Psalm 13:6.
– “…because he hath dealt bountifully with me.”
David knows who his God is. David knows what his God had done for him in the past. David knows that despite his present situation, he can certainly sing, because God had dealt with him kindly in the past; and that the same God, will surely deal with him GRACIOUSLY and BOUNTIFULLY, in the future too. HalleluYah!!!
How are we looking at life? How are we processing all what is happening in and around us? How are we wanting to address our situations and circumstances? Where is God in the midst of all what is happening in our lives? Are we saying like David…
– “6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.” – Psalm 13:6
May we always choose to sing unto the LORD our God, regardless of all what is happening in and around us. May we always remember, all what God our Creator and Redeemer, had done for us, in the past. May we always seek the LORD for all our needs, both in the present, and in the future too. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Before God can enlighten our eyes, we must agree that we don’t see everything. We need to realize that our feelings are not giving us full and accurate information. But if we will do this, and cry out to the LORD, He will enlighten our eyes and bring us from a place of despair to a place of trust, joy, and confidence!"
