We understand from the words of LORD Jesus that He had come to give life to the world, that we may have it more abundantly.
– “10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10
In the light of our LORD’s words, *WHO NEEDS THE LIFE OFFERED BY THE LORD JESUS?* is an important question to ask. A dead person is the one who needs life. A hopeless person on the verge of death needs life. If a person is alive, why would he need life? Simple and straightforward isn’t it?
– “16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” – Genesis 2:16-17
– “6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” – Genesis 3:6-7
– “…For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” – Romans 3:22
– “23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
Our sin and our rebellion has brought upon us the death. This death is what we have earned for ourselves. The fruit of our sin is the death eternal. The world is on a death row, and there is no hope or sign of any life available to us. Our only hope, and the only One through whom life would flow into us, is through the LORD Jesus Christ alone.
– “21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” – 1 Corinthians 15:21-22
– “10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,” – 2 Timothy 1:10
– “11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” – 1 John 5:11-12
Now we need to ask ourselves some very important questions, this morning – “Do we have this life that is offered graciously by the LORD Jesus?” If we claim to have this life, then, – “Do we demonstrate for all to see, the fruit of such a life?” Lastly – “Are we witnessing about this life to all who are on the death row, like we once were?” These three questions are not only important, but are also interconnected. One would lead to the other; and all three together would complete the process of possessing this life. How about us?
– “13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” – 1 John 5:13
Even so, the LORD help us.
"I am come that they might have life; that the sheep might have life, or the elect of God might have life, both spiritual and eternal; who, as the rest of mankind, are by nature dead in trespasses and sins, and liable in themselves to an eternal death: Christ came into this world in human nature, to give his flesh, his body, his whole human nature, soul and body, for the life of these persons, or that they might live spiritually here, and eternally hereafter;"
