The Bible has many prayers in its pages. Some of them are my favourite prayers. One such favourite prayers the I love, is found in Psalm 19. It is not very surprising to know that, this Psalm is written by David.
– “14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.” – Psalm 19:14
Let us break this verse into smaller bits to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of David’s heart, his desire, and his prayer.
– LET THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH
– and THE MEDITATION OF MY HEART
– BE ACCEPTABLE IN YOUR SIGHT, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer
What an amazing desire that David has! What great prayer for purity of thoughts and words! He is not asking for material things. He is not asking for wealth and comforts. He is not asking for power and dominion. He is not asking for position and authority. He is asking for something that is far more precious and priceless than anything else in this world. He is asking God to give him a heart and a mind that thinks, speaks and does things, which LORD God Almighty would approve and appreciate. Small wonder then, David is considered by God Himself, as a man after His own heart – a man after God’s own heart.
How about us this morning? What kind of prayers are we praying? What kind of desires are we expressing to God? What kind of wants are we seeking God for? Who is glorified by our prayers? Who is lifted up by our desires? Do our prayers seek God to help us be strengthened spiritually?
May we always seek the LORD to help us desire for things, that glorifies God, and edifies and strengthens us to live a life, that is pleasing to the LORD Jesus Christ. Even so the LORD help us.
"The great purpose of the truly pious is, not to please themselves, or to please their fellow-men...but to please God. The great object is to secure acceptance with him; to have such thoughts, and to utter such words, that He can look upon them with approbation."
