One of the concerns that we have is about our future. How would it be? What would happen? Would it be a good future? These are some of the most natural questions that one would have. They are all good questions and legitimate ones too. Would it be something different for a Christian? How should a Christian think about his future?
The above questions are good and we should be thinking on those lines. However, we as Christians should have one additional and very critical component to all our thinking, planning and preparation about our future. This is to seek the LORD Jesus Christ, our Creator and our Redeemer with all our heart, and depending upon Him for all our future need.
– “9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
What is written above is a clear and concise expression about the LORD God Almighty, and what He thinks about our future. The LORD Jesus, speaking during His Sermon on the Mount, as found in the gospel of Matthew, expounds the thought in the following words.
– “25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?…30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” – Matthew 6:25;30-32
The LORD Jesus, hits the nail on its head, the only solution to all out fears about our future, and about a good life in the days to come, when He says…
– “33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33
The same essence of Jesus words are to be found in…
– “21 There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand.” – Proverbs 19:21
– “23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand.” – Psalm 37:23-24
How are we concerned about our future? Are we concerned? Are we disturbed? Are we scared? Are we looking to God and seeking Him? Where does God fit into the schemes about our future? Let us not worry about our future. Let us allow God to carry it. As we do that, let us always seek the LORD to help us to lean upon Him, and trust Him at all times. May we always look to God, and seek His guidance, for all our thoughts and plans for our future. The LORD Jesus will not only carry our future, but more importantly, carry us into the future that only He can see, safely and securely. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Throughout Scripture, God's providence is a recurring theme, as seen in Genesis 50:20, where Joseph acknowledges God's hand in his life's events. Theologically, this reflects the belief in divine providence, where God orchestrates events according to His will and purpose. This concept is also echoed in the New Testament, such as in Romans 8:28, which assures believers that God works all things for good. The phrase suggests a balance between human responsibility and divine guidance, encouraging trust in God's plan, as seen in the life of Jesus Christ, who submitted to the Father's will in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:39)."
