Worry and human beings appears to me, like the two sides of a coin. Everyone worries for some reason or the other. Who doesn’t worry? It is but natural. Generally speaking, most worries are nothing but real concerns, stretched a bit long. However, if they are not tagged and tied to reasonable and rational limits, they can become a cause of concern. In some cases serious concern. Unrestrained worry can rob us of our peace, joy and sanity. It is unhealthy to say the least. It will make us go on a never-ending trail of anxiety, paranoia and constant fear. Such a situation is not good, and neither is it healthy.
The antidote to worry is not found in human wisdom. We will invariably end up back at where we have begun. The only real and helpful antidote to all human worries is the LORD Jesus Christ. The LORD addresses unhealthy worries, by encouraging us to trust Him to take care of all our legitimate concerns.
– “6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
Let us read the same Bible verse from Message Translation. This helps us to get a different perspective of the same text, and the meaning of what Paul is exhorting us.
– “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” – Philippians 4:6-7 MSG (The Message)
What concerns are troubling us this morning? What matters of our lives are calling for our attention? How are we responding to all such concerns that are seeking our attention? Are we worried? Are we concerned? Are we troubled? Are we anxious? Are we stressed out? Are we scared that something might go wrong in our lives? Are we afraid they something bad might happen in our lives?
LET US STOP RIGHT THERE. Let us not entertain all such concerns that are worrying us, any further. Unhealthy worry will greatly influence, impact our mental, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual well-being. It will ultimately control how we personally think and feel, almost about everything in our lives.
Therefore, let us take all what is troubling us to the LORD. This is precisely what Paul is exhorting us. Let us take all our concerns, our worries and our fears, as they are in our minds, raw and unfiltered, and place them into the hands of our LORD and Redeemer. Now let us read what the LORD has to speak to us in the face of all our worries and concerns that may be paralysing us.
– “27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27
– “7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
– “22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” – Psalm 55:22
– “10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” – Isaiah 41:10
– “26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:26-28
– “14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16
– “16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Let us know this clearly, once and for all. Let us stop carrying our worries as a load that is nearing us down. Instead LET GOD CARRY IT – “OUR WORRIES” – and we not fret over them, but instead, trust God to lead and guide us through it all. Let us, therefore, patiently wait for God to address all our concerns that are troubling us and stressing us, in His way and in His time. As our Saviour tackles them, let us trust God, and walk one step at a time in the direction that He is leading us. Pretty soon, we will see a new dawn rising in our lives. Even so, the LORD help us.
"[The Bible] ...calls believers to trade anxiety for communion. Instead of stewing over problems, bring every concern to the Father through specific, grateful prayer. Confidence grows as you remember His past faithfulness, thank Him in the present, and trust Him for the future. The command is simple: worry about nothing, pray about everything, thank God through it all."
