Man loves power. The world is drawn towards power, like moths are drawn to fire. Either they themselves want it; or they would like to be associated with those who possess and wield power. Power is considered the ultimate thing to attain in this world. Therefore, the desire and the aspiration for it. Many wouldn’t mind doing anything or cross any line, to get this power.
People who aspire for power and desire it with all their hearts miss a critical point that, this unbridled love for power is the source of all evil. This is very much in line with the old English proverb – “Power corrupts; and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The problem is not so much the power itself, but the heart of man. Man wants power, and he doesn’t want anyone to oversee it. He wants to be a law unto himself. The god of his own life – a god of his own making.
The Bible has some tough words for all of us, especially those of us who long for power, and love it like anything.
– “11 God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.” – Psalm 62:11
The Bible makes it crystal clear that *POWER BELONGS TO GOD* and God alone. Whatever power we have, is given to us by God. It is entrusted to our care for the good of others, and for the blessing of His people. That which God Almighty gives to us, comes with accountability clause. A day is set apart for the judgement of all our actions that have proceeded out of the power entrusted to our care.
1- “GOD HAS SPOKEN ONCE, TWICE I HAVE HEARD THIS”
The above words are repeated twice to help us know the importance of what is being said. “TWICE I HAVE HEARD THIS” meaning, this is very very important. What is it that is so so important?
2- “THAT POWER BELONGS TO GOD”
All power belongs to God and God alone. Firstly, we should acknowledge this true statement, that power belongs to God. Secondly, we should learn use whatever is given is to great responsibility.
– “Understanding that power belongs to God helps us to trust in His plans and purposes, even when they are beyond our understanding. Recognizing God’s power should lead us to worship Him with reverence and awe, acknowledging His supreme authority over all creation.” – Berean Study Bible Notes
– “11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all. 12 Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all. 13 “Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name.” – 1 Chronicles 29:11-13
– “20 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.” – Daniel 2:20-21
May we never ever forget, but remember it always that, God is the source of all power. He it is that should be sought with all our hearts. We run to His shelter for our sustenance and survival. We ought to be responsible and sensible in using whatever power is entrusted to our care. Whatever God gives us, is given to be used for the benefit and for the blessing of others. In this is our benefit and our blessing. May the LORD help us.
"...power is his prerogative; and, consequently, that all creatures, either against him or without him, are poor, impotent things, in which no man can trust without certain disappointment; but that he is almighty, and can do every thing; and that with him nothing is impossible; and therefore that he, and he alone, is fit to be trusted."
