We understand from experience that, life can be chaotic, and at times very confusing. Such a situation is not very unusual and uncommon. As Christians we are no different from the rest of the world. Many times, we can say with experience, we may have to go through more chaos and confusion than the rest of the world. The reason being the path on which we are called to walk. The Narrow Path we are called to walk is not only NARROW, but is more importantly, swimming against the current. We are called to walk against the desires of our flesh, and the values, principles and ethics of the world.
Struggles, storms and sufferings for a Christian who walks on the Narrow Path are an expected thing. However, we are not to lose heart, not get discouraged, despite the obstacles and the pitfalls. The only source of all our strength is the LORD Jesus Christ, the One who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light. It is He who will walk with us and guide us through every situation, regardless of how tough, testing and troubling our situation might be.
The words of the shepherd king David from Psalm 23 should help our perspective and enable us to lean onto our Good Shepherd to lead us and guide us though every chaotic situation, and through every confusing turn in our lives.
– “1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
– 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
– 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
– 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
– 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
– 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” – Psalms 23
So dear brothers and sisters, whatever may be our situation; however chaotic and confusing our life and all the twists and turns; we need patience and trust, as the disciples of the LORD Jesus. We should learn to trust God and His leading, and be patient as we wait upon the Good Shepherd to lead us and guide us.
– “1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Our life, when we are led by this our Good Shepherd, is anything but chaos and confusion. We should therefore, train our heart and our mind to trust God, the Good Shepherd, and His leading. Let us learn to trust our Good Shepherd, and walk with patience, as He leads us. Do we need anything more? David doesn’t think so. Many a faithful Christian doesn’t think so. I don’t think so. What about you?
"The LORD as a shepherd knew how to make David rest when he needed it, just as a literal shepherd would care for his sheep...a sheep doesn’t always know what it needs and what is best for itself, and so needs help from the shepherd...The shepherd also knew the good places to make his sheep rest...The shepherd knows when the sheep needs green pastures, and knows when the sheep needs the still waters. The images are rich with the sense of comfort, care, and rest."
