Today is Sunday, and we go to the Church to worship the LORD along with our brothers and sisters in the LORD. The LORD instituted such a gathering for our encouragement, strengthening, and to be corrected and instructed by the LORD Jesus, through His human mouthpieces. I am always happy to go to the Church. How about you?
David, who loved the LORD His God immensely, pens some of the sweetest words ever in Psalm 122:1. I just love it.
– “1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” – Psalm 122:1
When we read the above verse we see the heart of David, and the excitement and eagerness in his heart, mind and spirit. It speaks of his love for God, and his desire to worship Him. How wonderful it is to see what thrills David’s heart.
Do we have such overflowing excitement, whenever we think about going to the Church? Honestly speaking, we may not, at times. There are times when we all feel down. David also felt down many times in his life. He felt like to be left alone because of so many issues running around him. Yet, David says, “I WAS GLAD…” David thought so because, there is no better place to go than to go to the Church. If we go with an expectant heart, the LORD Jesus would never disappoint us.
– Church is not a social gathering to find entertainment.
– Church is not a business gathering to go with an attitude of, “What do I get out of it?” in a transactional sense.
– Church is not a family gathering where we get to meet all the long lost relatives.
– “It is good and important for us to gather with God’s people for prayers, worship, and receiving of God’s word. The gathering should be formal and ordered enough so that it is regarded as a gathering of God’s house – not everyone doing their own thing, but God’s people coming together for His glory and their benefit in His house.” – David Guzik
Even if the whole service doesn’t make sense, there would be at least a word that would speak to us.
– We must go with an expectant heart.
– We must seek the LORD to speak to us.
– We must be attentive and open for the LORD to speak what He thinks is needed by us.
– The LORD will surely speak, when we seek Him sincerely, and go with an expectant heart.
I was glad that today is Sunday, and that I can go to the Church. How about you?
"Coming to God’s house made David happy, though he knew that no building could contain God in all His glory and greatness. At the house of the LORD he could focus his thoughts, prayers, worship, and receiving of God’s word in the community of God’s people in a special way, and David was glad for that."
