The fallen world operates on the principle of “Might is right.” We also call this, the “Law of the jungle.” The “might” comes in different forms and shapes. It could be money, power, weapons of war, loud, boastful and arrogant talkers. The idea is simple – anything that can have influence, and exert control over vast masses of people is used as a “weapon of war” to get what the “strong” and the “powerful” want.
We do have sane voices of wisdom in this world. Sadly, their voices are drowned by the drumbeats of warmongers. The masses of people have the ability to fall for the folly of the evil and wickedness. They fall for such tricks because, they are drawn towards it naturally. They are drawn towards it because, the same evil resides in their own hearts. They wholeheartedly subscribe to such views automatically. The world, including ourselves will overwhelmingly choose a Barabbas, and will most certainly shout their acceptance gleefully to kill the one who wants to help them. Have we not seen it time and again? Is not the LORD Jesus a very fine example of what the evil in the hearts of men, and the natural inclinations of the fallen man towards evil, can do to Someone who truly wants to help them?
The Bible helps us see the evil in human hearts and the intentional choices we make.
– “13 This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me: 14 There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. 16 Then I said: “Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard. 17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good.” – Ecclesiastes 9:13-18
The lessons for us…
– We use wisdom when it suits us, but we choose to live with evil.
– We dump wisdom as soon as its usefulness is over.
– Man is always evil in his heart and will most naturally drift towards evil.
– Let us not have any grand and noble thoughts about human heart and its inclinations.
– When we yield to God, and intentionally walk on the path that the LORD Jesus had called us to, then we choose wisdom and God.
– Let us as Christians, being transformed by the LORD Jesus, choose to walk in God’s ways.
– Such choices are clearly visible in our thoughts, words and deeds.
– Wisdom, even though may be unattractive, it is better on any given day.
– Fools will use loud voices to draw attention to themselves, but they have no value whatsoever, except destruction.
Let us VALUE and CHERISH wisdom. Let us SEEK it. Let us RUN after it. My dear brothers and sisters “WISDOM IS BETTER THAN WEAPONS OF WAR” and hence, let us choose to walk with the LORD Jesus, the source of all godly wisdom. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Wisdom is better than weapons of war" ...emphasizes the superiority of wisdom over physical might and military power...wisdom is often associated with the fear of the Lord and understanding His ways (Proverbs 9:10). The historical context of ancient Israel, a nation often surrounded by hostile powers, underscores the value of wisdom in navigating conflicts and maintaining peace...wisdom is a type of Christ, who is described as the "wisdom of God" (1 Corinthians 1:24), suggesting that reliance on divine wisdom is more powerful than any human strategy or weaponry."
