July 2, 2026No amount of emphasis on the importance of prayer in a Christian’s life can never be said, it is enough. Such is the position of prayer in our lives as the disciples of the LORD Jesus. D. L. Moody, who is considered among the great preachers of all-time, beautifully sums up the importance and the significance of prayer in the following quote.
– “I’d rather be able to pray than to be a great preacher; Jesus Christ never taught his disciples how to preach, but only how to pray.” – D. L. Moody
If such is the significance of prayer in a Christian’s life, “HOW THEN SHOULD WE PRAY?” One of the key aspects of our prayer should be to “PRAY TRUTHFULLY” at all times. Yes, TRUTH should one of the foundational pillars of all our prayers to God.
The LORD God Almighty is the personification of all virtues. All what He does is righteous, just, fair and truthful. In fact the LORD Jesus had emphatically declared, “I am the Way, the Truth and Life?” – John 14:6. The LORD Jesus is the “TRUTH” – which means, God of the Bible is honest and truthful in all His dealings.
If this is so, how about our prayers? Does God wants us to be truthful in our prayers too? Absolutely, and undoubtedly yes! This is what the LORD our God declares to us in His Scriptures.
– “18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18
When we pray, let us approach God truthfully and honestly. Let us not pretend everything to be fine, if it is not, thinking why bother God with our problems. When we pray let us be truthful, transparent and honest in pouring out our heart and all that is bothering us. At times, what we pray may sound silly, and maybe we think it is unwise. Being honest and truthful in sharing all that is upon our hearts with our Father in heaven is essential and is very much appreciated by our Father in heaven.
The Bible makes it clear that God loves honesty and truthfulness. The written Word of God makes it abundantly clear that God expects honesty and truthfulness from us – in our dealings and in all our thoughts, words and deeds.
– “23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:23-24
– “6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.” – Psalm 51:6
– “22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.” – Proverbs 12:22
Is truthfulness part of our prayers? Are honesty and truth the foundation of our prayers. Are we honest and truthful with the LORD Jesus when we pray? Let us pause and ponder the quality of our conversations with the LORD God our Father and our Redeemer. May we always be found to be honest and truthful disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ. Even so, the LORD help us.
