HOW THEN SHOULD WE PRAY? – “PRAY PERSISTENTLY”

Prayers are made to God in times of need. The need could be a simple need, or the need could be a serious one. At all times, the LORD says in His Bible, to PRAY PERSISTENTLY or with PERSEVERANCE.
– “18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” – Ephesians 6:18

Let us also read the above words along with what the LORD says in Colossians 4:2, so that we gain a proper and deeper insight into praying persistently.
– “2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;” – Colossians 4:2

The LORD Jesus exhorts us to “PRAY PERSISTENTLY” or “PRAY STEADFASTLY” for a specific reason. The LORD even illustrated the point about our persistence and perseverance in prayer, through “The Parable of the Persistent Widow” in Luke 18:1-5.
– “​1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,” – Luke 18:1

We are called to be persistent in all our prayers. Persistence or perseverance is not trying to twist God’s arm into action. Persistence or perseverance is about not giving up, and not losing the heart to pray, just like the LORD Jesus said in Luke 18:1.

We are called to pray persistently because when we begin to pray to the LORD Jesus, the enemy and his evil emissaries will do their best disarm us by to discouraging, disheartening us, so that we become weary and give up on seeking the face of the LORD. Therefore, we should be persistent in prayer, and persevere without getting discouraged.
– “It is easy to lose heart in prayer because prayer is hard work that we too often approach lightly. In Colossians 4:12, Paul praised a man named Epaphras because he was always laboring fervently… in prayers. Paul knew that prayer was hard work that required fervent labor. Morrison tried to explain why prayer was difficult, because three parts of the human being are engaged in prayer: “There is the understanding, by which we work intelligently; there is the heart, by which we labour willingly, there is the will by which we labour doggedly.” – Enduring Word Commentary

How are we doing with regards to prayer? Is persistence and perseverance the force that supports and strengthens us in all our prayers to the LORD Jesus? Are we persistent in our prayers? Do we give up pretty soon? Do we get discouraged and give up praying for our needs? Let us be encouraged this morning not to get disheartened and discouraged in prayer. May we always be persistent in prayer, and persevere with all our heart. Even so, the LORD help us.
