Most of the times, our prayers are for some need or the other. We do certainly express our gratitude and thanks to the LORD through our praise for all His goodness and grace that we have received. However, the proportion is definitely more towards seeking the face of our LORD Jesus for our needs and wants, more than praising Him for all what we have received from His good and gracious hands. This is my honest conclusion.
When we are saying “PLEASE LORD” we are focussing on our need, and the meeting of it. We pray about it to the LORD because, we believe He can help us, and will provide what we need. When we do so we could be doing it with deep faith and trust. But also, we could be merely “using” God to meet our needs. Is such a thing possible? Yes, it sure is.
When we are saying “PRAISE THE LORD!” we are focussing on the goodness and the graciousness of our LORD. Doing so, we approach God with gratitude and thanksgiving for WHO He is, and for all WHAT He has done in our lives thus far. It does not end there. We are confidently looking forward to the future, with all its needs and struggles, that the One who had helped us in the past, will help us in the future too. Is such a thing easy to do so? Honestly, it is not. Our normal and natural human nature wants to fear, but faith in the LORD Jesus should help us stand firm and walk steadfastly.
This LORD’s Day let us take time to thank the LORD Jesus for all what we have received from Him…and sing His praises and worship Him with all our hearts.
– “18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
– “4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” – Psalm 100:4-5
– “20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” – Ephesians 5:20
– “6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
– “1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalm 136:1
The LORD who has called us is good, gracious, merciful and full of love, compassion and forgiveness. Therefore, we ought to be praising and thanking our God more than seeking Him for our needs and necessities. The LORD Jesus will take care of all what we need. We need to just trust Him, to keep His end of the word. Has God our LORD ever gave a word, and not kept it? Can such a situation even arise? No, never ever! If so, then why worry about our needs? SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!
"Gratitude is to mark the believer’s life in prosperity, suffering, uncertainty, and loss. Paul wrote to a church [1 Thessalonians 5:17] that had received the gospel amid affliction and continued to face opposition. Thanksgiving does not call evil good or deny grief; it acknowledges God’s faithful presence, mercy, and sustaining grace within every condition. Joined with continual rejoicing and prayer in the surrounding commands, thankfulness directs the heart toward God rather than toward changing circumstances."
