1 Corinthians 12 ended with “a more excellent way to follow.” 1 Corinthians 13 ends with verse thirteen in this way – “13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
The LORD, through Paul, speaks about the excellence and externality of love. Love as the Bible speaks, is going to be forever and ever. Faith and hope have a timeframe. They would not be needed when this earth ceases to exist. It is love that will be for eternity…hence the title “greatest.”
Paul continuing the thoughts has this to say in the first verse of 1 Corinthians 14 – “1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts…“
Paul, expounding the excellence and the pre-eminence of love, and also the eternal value of it, has this as advise to us – PURSUE IT. Pursuing love is the most logical thing to do for us as Christians.
Love that is spoken here is not some feeling and a sentiment. It is the same love that our LORD and Redeemer has displayed in loving us, the lost and worthless sinner.
Let us love just like our LORD, for love is for eternity.
"Love like there is no tomorrow, and if tomorrow comes, love again."
