Love is a choice that is made intentionally. Such a choice involves conscious decision making process. It is not led by feelings. Neither is the decision made blindly, nor merely on feelings. If led by feelings, it just fades over a period of time.
If we analyse, feelings don’t do a good job of leading anyone. What we like today, may not be liked tomorrow. Such is the way of the feelings. Feelings come and go. They are like the fizz…it just fizzles away.
Love involves a deep and lasting commitment. When commitment is involved, feelings have no room to stay, and no role to play. Commitment goes beyond feelings, if one wants to stick to the commitment made. Commitment holds the ship on course, in the face of obstacles, hardships, problems and intense storms. It doesn’t give up, because one hits rough weather. This is LOVE!
One can see an example of such love in the LORD Jesus Christ. He doesn’t let go of us, in spite of our failings and our failures. He loves us, and works towards helping us be faithful to Him and His calling. This is LOVE!
Such love is not easy. However, that should not deter us. Let us demonstrate such love in all our relationships. Let us commit ourselves to such kind of love. If ever we fall down or fail, let us pick ourselves up, and recommit ourselves to the Agape Love. This is LOVE!
"A marriage cannot survive when we think only of ourselves. We need to recognize that to love someone is a choice, not a feeling."
