Lettie B Cowman faced an incredible trial when her husband, Charles Cowman grew very sick, and began to die slowly. Instead of despairing, however, Cowman compiled a year’s worth of readings, poems, and the Bible texts to encourage herself as she cared for her dying husband.
Lettie Cowman is such a fine example of a wonderful Christian, and a loving and caring spouse. She cared for her dying husband with such amazing dedication. A rarity as the days pass by.
To keep her spirits up, she looked to the LORD her God, and write short devotions, that would encourage her and help her through her pain and problems. What a fine example!
The Designer who created us, intends us to be a much different kind of a person. We were created for relationships. We draw our reference point from being in relationships with others. Our meaning and purpose comes to the fore only when we relate to others in love, sacrifice, forgiveness and service to others.
Let us rediscover our God given purpose – “45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45
"I cannot explain exactly how we are able to receive the power to serve and to endure through communion with God, but I know it is a fact. Are you in danger of being crushed by a heavy and difficult trial? Then seek communion with Christ and you will receive strength and the power to be victorious, for God has promised, “I will strengthen you” (Isa. 41:10)."
