May is the month dedicated for workers. The ‘work-force’ is both essential and integral aspect for the development, growth and sustenance of any progress. They are the wheels on which the society progresses. Sadly, they are also, the most undervalued, and considered as someone dispensable. On part of the workers – they have their own contribution too.
The Bible has some profound insights to get our perspective right on WORK, WORKERS and WORSHIP. For the Word of God sees work as a display of our worship towards the LORD our Creator.
1 – All work is good, and is given by God, unless it is sinful work – “10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” – Ecclesiastes 9:10
2 – Work with your heart and mind, and consider you are working for God, andnot some human agent. It will work wonders – “23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” – Colossians 3:23-24
3 – Work in a way that God is lifted up and glorified through our work. Let God and the joy of doing something worthwhile with our talents and ability should be our priority. Never work for money – “31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31
"A job is a vocation only if someone else calls you to do it for them rather than for yourself. And so our work can be a calling only if it is remained as a mission of service to something beyond merely our own interests. Thinking of work mainly as a means of self-fulfillment and self-realization slowly crushes a person."
