My wise old grandmother told me as child, that the wicked in this world, will have their fair share of run, before justice is meted out to them. It may seem that, no one can stop them. They may even appear mighty and invincible. Yet, just as a pot takes time to fill, so also the wicked. It takes time to fill their pot of sin. Untill their pot of sin is filled, they run their course. Once their pot is filled, their time would be up, and will be called to give an account for all what they have done.
I can never forget the wisdom of my grandmother. This has sustained me in some of the most testing times in my life. It is heart wrenching, to experience injustice, and at the same time, realise that, we are so utterly powerless and helpless, against the wicked. Even God seems far away, and it feels like, we are abandoned without any hope. Have you experience such a situation?
– “1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. 2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save! 3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. 4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.” – Habakkuk 1:1-4
The meditations from Psalm 112, ends today, with the fate of the wicked, as the conclusion to the Psalm, drawn in contrast with the “Good Man,” his faithful walk, and his lot. Psalm 112:10 sums up for us, the righteous justice of God. Even though it may take time, but God Almighty will never let, a wicked and evil man go unpunished.
– “10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.” – Psalm 112:10
1- The wicked shall “see” the life of the “Good Man” and shall grieve, because of the blessings it will bring.
2- He shall gnash his teeth out of jealousy and anger.
3- The wicked will surely melt away.
4- The desire of the wicked, to hurt and harm the “Good Man” will surely and certainly perish.
5- The wicked will be brought to give an account of all his wicked deeds.
What sustains a “Good Man” in the face of the powerful, and seemingly invincible evil man is, the hope in the Fairness, Justice and Righteousness of our God. The hope that, God does not let any injustice go unpunished – whether it is a Jew or a Gentile, should keep us focussed on walking the right path, that God had laid out for us.
– “3 …ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity,
just and right is he.” – Deuteronomy 32:3b-4
Thankfully, the God of the Bible is not blinded with partiality, nor does He side with the wicked, unlike many who call themselves the epitome of good, just, fair and the “chosen people.” They claim for themselves, the crown of righteousness, fairness and justice, as their own, because they believe they are “exceptional” in comparison with the rest – this is the wicked man of Psalm 112:10. We are not to be like that.
– “1 “You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. 3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute. 4 “If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. 5 If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it. 6 “You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute. 7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. 8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous. 9 “Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 23:1-9
May we never be like with wicked man of Psalm 112:10. May we not be anything like what God Almighty had warned His people in Exodus 23:1-9. May we be people who always walk as the “Good Man” and do what pleases God the most, as in Psalm 112:1-9 – which we have meditated for the past few days. Even so the LORD help us.
"It is "...a sobering reminder that living in opposition to God's will, [will lead us] to ultimate disappointment and destruction. God's justice is assured, and the wicked will face the consequences of their actions, even if it seems delayed. Desires that are not aligned with God's will are ultimately unfulfilling and lead to ruin. The righteous can take comfort in knowing that their faithfulness will be rewarded, and the apparent success of the wicked is temporary."
