Johan, the leprosy victim, about whom I wrote earlier, broke his eye glasses, and was finding it difficult to see clearly. So I helped him to buy a new set. As usual, he was grateful and thanked me. But what he said during our small conversation, revealed to me his heart, and his attitude towards life and living, despite all the problems he has. He said, “God will take care of all my needs. I am not too much bothered about my needs. He is faithful!!!” What a statement!
Johan’s life is severely restricted. He cannot move without pain. He cannot do things like a normal healthy human being. There is mental and emotional trauma. There is social trauma too. There is stigma and ‘shame’ attached with leprosy. Despite all of his struggles, pain and the problems, he always has a smile on his face, and a grateful and thankful attitude toward God and life, with no complaints, whatsoever. This speaks of his heart.
May the LORD grant us such a heart.
"Genuine thankfulness is an act of the heart’s affections, not an act of the lips’ muscles."
