The LORD Jesus Christ, speaking to His disciples, just before His ascension [Matthew 28:18-20,] speaks words of Comfort to them [and us,] gives them [and us] a Command, and Commits to them [and us,] His Continued presence. What more can we ask from the LORD?
“18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20.
The LORD reassures, the scared and scattered disciples, not to be afraid, and not to fear anything or anyone. He said – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Isn’t that comforting and reassuring? HalleluYah!!! It sure is!
The LORD then gives them the Command to preach the gospel, teach the commands, make disciples and baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Our responsibility is clearly spelt out. There is no ambiguity with our task. Isn’t it?
The LORD then Commits to the disciples, His Continued presence, which means we are never left alone, to fend for ourselves. The LORD is always with us, in whatever situation we may be in. He is with us, beside us and in the ‘fiery’ trials, just like He was with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. How wonderful, isn’t it?
Let us walk by faith, whatever may be our feelings, being reassured of the fact, that the LORD is with us. Let us not be afraid of anything or anyone. Rather, let us live to be His witness and make disciples.
"Love always involves responsibility, and love always involves sacrifice. And we do not really love Christ unless we are prepared to face His task and to take up His Cross."
