The Bible, when we read, we see that for YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty, being fair, just and righteous, in all our dealings, is of utmost importance. God, just like He is, wants us, His children, and the chosen people of God, to be holy, righteous and just.
– “15 ‘You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbour.” – Leviticus 19:15
The standard to which, the People of God – the Jews, and also the Christians, as His chosen people, are called to the standards of God, in all our dealings. Sadly, the Jews, and the Church, have failed terribly, on this count. We have been unjust, and have sided with injustice, down through the centuries…even today. We need look no further than what Jesus said about the Pharisees and the Sadducees, to catch a glimpse of ourselves and our state…
– “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.” – Mathew 23:23-24
Philip Yancey’s comments on the Church, and the Christians, is worth reading, in this context. They are incisive, and will dismantle our blindness to our faults…nay, our sins…
– “When the church has occasion to set the rules for all society, it often veers toward the extremism.” “When the church joined with the state, it tended to wield power rather than dispense grace.”
May the LORD help us to be His true representatives, where His heart, and His character, is not only heard through our words, but is also seen, in our lives, and in all matters related. Even so the LORD help us.
"We do not want a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world."
