“AMBASSADORS” OF INJUSTICE?

August 16, 2024Today is the 78th Independence day of India. We pray that the LORD God Almighty would bless India and its people, as He had done till today. This nation had been good towards Christians. There were and are problems, yet, without hesitation we can say, that India had been good to Christians. Sadly, for about thirty years now, persecution of Christians is steadily increasing, even though majority of the people do love and care for Christians.
Here is a list of some Christians who fought for the independence of India, and worked for its good. Sushil Kumar Rudra, Accamma Cherian, Harendra Coomar Mookerjee, Titusji, Princess Amrit Kaur, Brahmhabandhab Upadhaya (George Thomas), J. C. Kumarappa, Paul Ramasamy, T. M. Varghese and A. J. John.
Ambrose Pinto, in his article “Christian Contribution to the Freedom Struggle” lists the following Christians who had actively participated in the freedom movement.
– “Some of the prominent Christian leaders in the Congress [Indian National Congress] in this period were R.S.N. Subramanian, a prominent barrister from Madras, Kali Charan Banerji from Bengal, G. G. Nath a barrister from Lahore, Peter Paul Pillai of Madras and Madusudan Das, a lawyer from Orissa. Barrister George Joseph from Kerala was an active participant in Home Rule Movement and closely associated with Annie Besant.”
The land of India, had been good to Christians, down through the ages. We had freedom to live, practice and propagate our faith, and the teachings of the LORD Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is imperative upon us to pray for its good. We should, if you allow me, every day, pray to the LORD, for India’s good and progress. This what the Bible encourages us to do…
– “1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;” – 1 Timothy 2:1-3
Here is my prayer – LORD of all creation, have mercy upon this beautiful land of India, and all its people. May Your manifold blessings be showered upon our nation. May Your wisdom be the guiding force, for our leaders, and the administration. May Your hand guide the destiny of India, and all its people. May we be a nation, that loves peace and harmony, and be a blessing to all its citizens. LORD, grant us, the Christians, to be truly a blessing to India, and all its people. Even so the LORD help us.
