Paul writing to the Christians at Corinth gives a glimpse into his personal life, and his relationship with the LORD. The passage we find in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, to say the least, is very fascinating to read.
“7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
– Paul is speaking about his personal struggle with something serious, that was considered important to pray about.
– Paul prays about this same problem three times.
– The solution offered was “not a solution” in a general sense.
– The problem would not be taken away, but Paul would be helped to endure it.
– Paul would endure his problem because of God’s GRACE and His STRENGTH – “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
The lessons for us…
– Our problems have a purpose for our progress…even though painful for the moment. Vs. 7
– We have to pray and seek the LORD in prayer for our struggles and problems. Vs. 8
– The LORD may not answer as we expect Him to. Vs. 9
– Whatever may be the LORD’s answer, we ought to, with thankfulness and gratitude, continue our Christian walk in faith and obedience. Vs. 10
Narrow way is not easy, nor is it trouble free. However, the LORD is with us, and that is all we need.
"Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays."
