The Apostle Paul, writing to young Timothy says, “6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” – 1 Timothy 6:6-10
We see Paul, enlightening the youngman, Timothy, about riches, its temporalness, greed and godliness. Paul further explains, what among these is, truly profitable, and a great gain, for a Christian. This is equally true to us even today. May be, these words are even more profound today, than when they were originally written, some 2000 years ago.
What is our perspective towards riches and money? How do we perceive it? Do we count money, more than God, and godliness? Not an easy question to answer, because of money’s subtilty, and its nature to rationalise everything. We need to go threadbare, and search with a magnifying glass. For the tripwires, especially when it comes to money, are invisible and absolutely dangerous for a Christian.* Let us be aware of this. Let us seek the LORD to help us to see things, as He sees them. Let us learn to be content with what we have, and to love God, more than anything else, especially money.
"Money represents your time, your energy, your talents, your total personality converted into currency. We usually hold on to it tenaciously, yet it is uncertain in value and we cannot take it into the next world."
