Times have changed so much over these years. Earlier people were living within their means, with a strong emphasis on saving a part of the income for future needs. Now, we are spending most of the income that is earned, and living on credit cards and borrowed money.
The earlier method emphasised on independence and freedom, though living a humble life. The latter method is to live extravagantly by enslaving ourselves to loans and monthly repayments…some running into a quarter of a century. Crazy times, crazy choices and crazy lives.
The Word of God offers some wisdom on such matters through Proverbs 22:7, Luke 12:15 and Proverbs 15:16…
“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
“Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.”
Financial experts advise, that one should have a Spending Plan for our income. Such a plan should be practical and within our means, and not given to some fantasy, illusion and wild imagination. If we don’t, then we will be throwing our money all around, which finally ends up in borrowings and credit.
A child of God ought to live a disciplined and self-contended life – in all our finances too. Such a life is part of being a good disciple of the LORD.
"Having a spending plan can help us to free our money for the things that matter most to us."
