The Word of God has much to say on the subject of money, and the related topics. The LORD Jesus, speaking about the agenda and the principles of the Kingdom of God, in His Sermon on the Mount, has this to say, “24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” – Matthew 6:24. It is surprising to note, that money is competing with our devotion for God.
Paul speaking to the young Timothy says, “10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” – 1 Timothy 6:10; the consequences of loving money more than God.
Jesus sums up the matter about money in this way, “19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21.
Clarity is given to us about money and our hearts – what should we do, and what we should not, is clearly given. Where is our heart, and where is our treasure?
"Sixteen of the thirty-eight parables of Jesus deal with money. One out of ten verses in the New Testament deals with that subject. Scripture offers about five hundred verses on prayer, fewer than five hundred on faith, and over two thousand on money. The believer's attitude toward money and possessions is determinative."
