To wait upon the LORD is a good thing. It declares our spiritual position, while facing our storms and the struggles. Waiting upon the LORD is a declaration, that it is God, who is our Refuge and our Rescuer. Therefore, it is a blessing to wait patiently upon the LORD God Almighty. This is what David writes in Psalm 49:1-3
– “1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. 3 He has put a new song in my mouth – Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.”
Stephen Charnock (1628-1680) an English Puritan divine, explains what is “Christian patience” and what it is not…
– “In regard of God, patience is a submission to His sovereignty. To endure a trial, simply because we cannot avoid or resist it, is not Christian patience. But to humbly submit because it is the will of God to inflict the trial, to be silent because the sovereignty of God orders it – is true godly patience.”
To wait upon God is a blessing. Such a patient waiting upon the LORD, teaches us so many things. When we humbly submit ourselves to the sovereignty of the LORD, He will take care of us. The LORD will honour our faith in Him, by standing by our side, and will deliver us, from all our troubles. David’s Psalm speaks volumes on this subject. Here under is a break-up of the same…
– I waited patiently for the LORD
– He inclined to me, And heard my cry
– He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay
– He has set my feet upon a rock
– He has established my steps
– He has put a new song in my mouth – Praise to our God
– Many will see it…
The LORD about whom the Bible talks about, and His children of old have spoken about, is a God, who cares for His children. He never abandons all who trust in Him. He takes great pleasure to stand with us, in our struggles. Let us learn to wait patiently upon the LORD. He will take care of everything.
"If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait, let us do so with our whole hearts; for blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is worth waiting for. The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes. The Lord’s people have always been a waiting people."
