When on a journey, navigation is of utmost importance. Same applies to our Christian journey. Navigation not only involves the direction and our ultimate destination, but also, what means and methods we employ, as part of that walk, becomes of critical significance. The means and the methods we employ are the foundational principles, that help us build the building. The foundational principles are invisible, but its quality and character is seen in the strength of the structure that is built over them. The passage from 1 Peter 5:6-11 is of such importance for our Christian walk.
– “6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 5:6-11
Let us study 1 Peter 5:7, for our meditation this morning.
– “7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
What comfort these words bring to a Christian is simply indescribable. It is like refreshing and cool water on a hot summer day. It helps a weary and staggering soul to hope of a better and bright future. Oh, what an amazing, loving, kind and concerned Person is YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty!!! We can learn two important things from this verse.
1- TO CAST ALL OUR CARE UPON HIM
“Casting all your care upon Him…” – Cares – Burdens, concerns, problems, anxieties, worries, fears and everything else they may be troubling us. Why cast our cares on God? Simply because we cannot carry the load. It is burdens us so much that, we will crumble, and will be crushed, under its weight. This tells us about the capacity of our actual strength. This knowledge should puncture our ego and our arrogance, that may assume that we can walk the Christian way, in our own strength. We cannot walk the Christian way, with our own strength, whoever we may be, whatever may be the opinion of ourselves. Therefore…
– ‘5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” – Proverbs 3:5-8
2- FOR HE CARES FOR YOU
“…for He cares for you.” – God is the only one who truly care for us and our welfare. He is only one who can help us. He is the only one who will help us, and never abandon us. When we listen to the ever soothing words of the LORD Jesus, it tells us about God and the much needed help that is available, only in Him.
– “28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, let us cast all our burdens, concerns, problems, anxieties, worries, fears and everything else they may be troubling us, upon the LORD – to literally to throw it upon the LORD. We do so upon the invitation of our LORD to do so. The LORD is inviting us to do so because, He truly cares for us and our welfare. Let us therefore, run to our God, and trust Him with all our heart, and with all that is troubling us, to find our safety and security, under His wings, and His care. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Prayer tells God what the care is, and asks God to help, while faith believes that God can and will do it. Prayer spreads the letter of trouble and grief before the Lord, and opens all its budget, and then faith cries, ‘I believe that God cares, and cares for me; I believe that he will bring me out of my distress, and make it promote his own glory.'"
