CHRISTIAN AND THE NATION – “GOD IMPARTIALLY LOVES ALL NATIONS”

God of the Bible loves all nations impartially. The LORD has no favourites, “GOD IMPARTIALLY LOVES ALL NATIONS.” Now how can we ascertain this?

When it comes to the people of the world, the LORD has no special preferences. This is how it has been right from the very beginning. The LORD’s words, as found in Genesis, speaks volumes about God’s heart and His intent in regards to the people of the world.

To see the heart of our LORD, let us look at “IMAGO DEI” first. Imago Dei is a Latin phrase meaning “image of God.” It means God created every human being – black, white, brown, hello and any other colour in-between – in His image. Therefore, every person in this world has high value, worth, and purpose. This is how God intended it to be, and this is exactly how He did.
– “26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion…all the earth…” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” – Genesis 1:26-27
– “6 “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.” – Genesis 9:6

The LORD makes it amply clear, even before the Bible records that God chose Abraham and his descendants, to be called as His people – the Israel. The sequence of record is crucial and critical in gaining a fuller and proper understanding of how God Almighty sees the human beings, whom He had created.

Let us look at the promise YAHWEH made to Abraham. It has far wider and deeper purpose than a small group of people, and a small parcel of land. The scope of God’s promise to Abraham is the whole world.
– “​1 Now the LORD had said to Abram…3…in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” – Genesis 12:1a,3b
– “25 You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’” – Acts 3:25
– “8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” – Galatians 3:8  

Peter speaking to the Jews about the LORD Jesus Christ and the Messiah, makes this bold assertion. This should help us see with clarity, the heart and the purposes of God, and the universal scope of His love for the nations of the world without any partiality for anyone, or any prejudice against anyone.

What God had promised Abraham, of which Peter spoke about in Acts 3;22-24, is fulfilled through the life, ministry and the triumphal sacrifice of the LORD Jesus Christ.
– “14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” – John 3:14-17

The LORD Jesus’ call to the disciples, by entrusting the Great Commission, and the scope of it, is an unmissable indication of the heart of God for all the nations.

The choosing of the gentiles is merely the formal inclusion of all gentiles who believe in Christ the LORD, into the Abrahamic covenant. It was always so right from the very beginning of the fall. God always had only one covenant and one Chosen People of God, which the LORD God Almighty made. The covenant of being chosen is made to the whole world. One of the acts in the Grand Plan of Salvation, initiated and implemented by YAHWEH Himself is the choosing of Abraham, and all his seed who will walk the righteous path of faith like Abraham the ‘Father of Faith.’ This includes everyone – “In you all the nations will be blessed.” of Genesis 12:3b has to be read in conjunction with…

– “7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.” – Galatians 3:7-9

The gentile believers in the LORD Jesus are not an afterthought of YAHWEH, neither are we an appendix, added later because Jews rejected Jesus. We are just as chosen as Israel. For God was working for the salvation of the whole world, and not a tiny little ethnic group. We all, the Jews and the Gentiles are chosen to be the instruments of God, to dispense Him periods and priceless grace, mercy, love and forgiveness to the whole world.

– “9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” – 1 Peter 2:9-10

Sadly as Christians we have taken the path of the Jews, who have a very low and disdainful opinion about gentiles. The LORD Jesus has adequately and forcefully addressed this issue through the Parable of the Good Samaritan and by talking to the promiscuous Samaritan woman at the well. Why was Jesus so forceful in asking the Jews to love their gentile neighbours?

It pains to see that we Christians too have followed that same path as the Jews in many ways. Thankfully many Christians don’t, and have enthusiastically preached the gospel and its liberating and uplifting power to the whole world. Grateful to God for Christians missionaries from the West.

“GOD IMPARTIALLY LOVES ALL NATIONS” – yes, God loves and cares for people of every nation, race and religion without any partiality. He has no preference for any particular people;  nor has He any prejudice against any. He calls all people sinful – Romans 3:22b-23. He calls all people worthy of death in hell fire – Romans 6:23. He call every such person, Jew or Gentile alike, to come to the saving knowledge of the LORD Jesus Christ. For there is no other way for anyone to be saved, Jew or Gentile alike. We too, like the Jews, are called to love all nations and all people, just like how the LORD Jesus loves them impartially. Are we loving the people of every nation, race and religion impartially? When we do so, we are truly reflecting God as His Chosen People, and as His disciples and His ambassadors. Even so, the LORD help us to love the nations impartially.
