CHRISTIAN AND THE NATION – “THE NEED OF THE HOUR – A TRUE CHRISTIAN REPENTANCE”
August 14, 2026Today, the 15th of August is Indian independence day. Grateful to the LORD Jesus for India our country, and for the freedom we enjoy here. Let me begin by wishing A Very Happy Independence Day to all my dear Indians.
A few questions that we should be asking ourselves as Indian Christians. Many of us may not be asking them as frequently as we should. Here are the questions…
– “How does God want us, Christians, to view our nation?”
– “How does the LORD Jesus want us to conduct ourselves in this nation?”
– “What should be our response, if we are facing a hostile environment in the nation?”
These questions are not just for Indian Christians, but to every Christian in every nation.
I believe firmly that, this is what our LORD Jesus would urge us to do, as His response to the above questions…
– Love India with all our heart.
– Love its people with all our hearts.
– Conduct ourselves as the LORD Jesus Himself would, if He were in India right now.
One may question, “What about the persecution of Christians?” and “What about the suspicious and hostile attitude of many towards Christians?” I believe the LORD Jesus would still say the same…
– LOVE INDIA WITH ALL OUR HEART.
– LOVE ITS PEOPLE WITH ALL OUR HEART.
– CONDUCT OURSELVES AS THE LORD JESUS HIMSELF WOULD, IF HE WERE IN INDIA RIGHT NOW.
One may be tempted to ask, “Why should one do so, and why follow what the LORD says?” The answer is very simple and straightforward, as far as I can see it.
– The LORD Jesus UNCONDITIONALLY loves India.
– The LORD Jesus WHOLEHEARTEDLY loves every single Indian – past, present and the future.
– The LORD Jesus CHOSE TO DIE FOR EVERY SINNER of the whole world, INCLUDING all the INDIANS – past, present and the future.
Do we need any further answers to any of our questions? I don’t think so. We are called to love the people, regardless of who they are, and what they are doing, and what they intend to do. Did not our LORD Jesus love the whole world? Did He not die for the whole world? Was the world good towards the LORD God Almighty? No, absolutely not. We were wicked, evil and the enemies of God, before God touched us and transformed us into who we are today.
Did the LORD Jesus hate us, because of who we were? Did He say, “Let them first come and say sorry, and ask for forgiveness, and then I will think about doing something about their sin?” No, this is not how God worked while implementing the plan of redemption. The Bible tells us that, while we were still sinners and without strength, Christ the LORD chose to die for us on the Cross of Calvary, to purchase our freedom by paying the ransom with His very own blood.
– “6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:6-8
If God so loved us, how then should we, as Christians and the disciples of the LORD, be loving all others, including those who hurt and harm us? May we seek the LORD Jesus to help us love our nation, our fellow citizens and strive to do our very best for our nation and our people. The is the LORD Jesus’ desire and His command for us as Indians. Even so the LORD help us.
