YAHWEH, the LORD of all creation, is absolutely fair and just, in all His dealings. In fact, the LORD is the epitome of all fairness, justice, equality and righteousness. Therefore, the Bible says, “1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.” – Leviticus 19:1-2
We are called to be holy – different and set apart – because God is holy. We are called to be like our God in our thoughts, words and deeds. Isn’t this the purpose of creating human beings in the image of God? – Genesis 1:26-27.
The Word of God clarifies through Proverbs 11:1, the heart of God – “1 Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.” There is no ambiguity, nor any confusion.
The LORD is someone who intensely hates lying, cheating and manipulation. They are all fruits from the same tree. One of the aspects of being holy is, to be honest, fair, just and righteous in all our dealings. We are called to be so, even if it is going to cost us, and cause loss of all kinds. This is called living for God.
“35 ‘You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. 36 You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 Therefore you shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them: I am the LORD.’ ” – Leviticus 19:35-37
“13 “You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light. 14 You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small. 15 You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. 16 For all who do such things, all who behave unrighteously, are an abomination to the LORD your God.” – Deuteronomy 25:13-16.
Sadly, we, the church, consisting of Christians, have not lived to uphold our LORD. We have lost our character. We have normalised the “Dishonest Scales.” We are, today, justifying it and rationalising it, saying this is alright; if not, we cannot survive in this world. Let us try telling the same to the LORD. What is saddening is that, we have become perfectly comfortable with such a behaviour as normal, natural and necessary. Oh the levels of our deception, and the depths of our depravity. Can we not see it? We have deceived ourselves into this position.
The Scriptures cannot be any clearer than what it already is. May the LORD help us to live a life worthy of His name, and His calling. May we employ just weights and justice, fairness, equality and righteousness in all our dealings. May the LORD, help us all to live a life of integrity. May the LORD, who rescued us, and is restoring us, be lifted up, in and through our lives.
"There is no currency more valuable than your character."
