The LORD lays out His purpose towards the Church, which is EKKLESIA, meaning the called out people, as found in the words of Peter in 1 Peter 2:9 is clear and unambiguous. The LORD says, “9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” – 1 Peter 2:9. Sadly we seem to have lost the plot.
“9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…” – We are called out people by the grace and mercy of God, in the sense of “the Ambassadors of God” – 2 Corinthians 5:20. This does not in any way mean that we are better than the others in the world.
The purpose of our calling is laid out clearly in the second part of the verse – “…that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
We are to be shining for God ourselves, and let the same God’s light, to shine upon those who are still in darkness. The light which touched and transformed us, ought to be volitionally and intentionally spread out by us, as commanded by the LORD Jesus Himself, in Matthew 5:13-16.
As Christians, and the called out people of God, we are to live for God, and spread His light, in and through our thoughts, words and deeds. This is our purpose, and this is our calling. May the LORD help us to do so at all times and under all circumstances. Even so, the LORD help us.
"The church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints."
