Everyone has problems. Some problems are big, while some are small. Some are serious problems, while some are silly problems. Some problems are real, while some are merely an illusion and our imaginations. If what happens in our life, is on the one side, what we do to solve it, is the other side. What happens in one’s life, though a matter of concern, is not all that significant, when compared to, how one responds to it, and where he seeks for help, to solve the matter of concern.
The Hebrew children, who just came out of slavery from Egypt, were hounded by the Pharaoh and his armies, to bring them back to Egypt. This episode is found in Exodus 14. Naturally, the Hebrew children feared the situation.
– “10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD.” – Exodus 14:10
However, what made the Hebrew children fear, and how they responded, was not something that one would expect from a people who were set free from bondage and slavery, after all the mighty miracles that YAHWEH had performed. They were delivered from an impossible situation, and from a mighty and imposing enemy. Small wonder, they are called the “stiff-necked people.
– “11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” – Exodus 14:11-12
Moses, who has known the LORD God Almighty, and had truly trusted Him, speaks words of encouragement and inspiration, which should encourage us too, even today.
– “13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” – Exodus 14:13-14
As promised, the LORD did fight for His people. The Hebrew children walked across the sea on dry ground, while the their enemies, the mighty Egyptian army perished in the sea, and fell dead by the sea – Exodus 14:21-31.
– “30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.” – Exodus 14:30-31
My dear brothers and sisters, whatever the situation may be, that we are in, let us never ever fear the enemy, and doubt our LORD. Yes, the situation may seem impossible. Yes, the enemy may be strong, powerful and imposing. Whatever the context, and whoever may be on the opposing side, and whatever their previous reputation, let us always trust the LORD, and look to Him, and Him alone, with faith and hope. For there is none, who care for us, and loves us, as much as does our LORD. May our eyes be fixed upon Him, and expectantly wait upon Him. Even if there comes a situation, where the LORD chooses, not to help us, still, let us look to the LORD, and Him alone. Even so the LORD help us.
"21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand." "10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations." "8 “Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, 9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’" "19 They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the LORD, “to deliver you."
