FOUR GROWTH CONTRIBUTORS – “WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH”

Worship, for us as Christians, who are called out from darkness into the light of God, by the LORD, is the crown of all what we can give to the LORD our GOD, our CREATOR, our REDEEMER, our SANCTIFIER, our SUSTAINER, our PROTECTOR, and our PROVIDER…and much much more. He alone deserves all the glory, honour and praise. It is therefore, good and right on our part to worship God our LORD, with all our heart, mind and body.
– “True worship comes only from [those whose] spirits [are] made alive and sensitive by the quickening of the Spirit of God.” – John Piper

Christian worship, therefore and most certainly, includes our thoughts, words and deeds; and goes beyond these things. What our LORD Jesus spoke in John 4:23-24 is helpful for us to gain a clear and deeper understanding about worshipping this great and mighty God.
– “23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:23-24

The words of our LORD Jesus should open our hearts and minds to the reality of worship, and the “how” of it. 
– THE TRUE WORSHIPERS – True worshippers tell us that there are false worshippers too. It is good for us to take stock time to time if we are being true worshippers of the LORD God Almighty.

– WILL WORSHIP THE FATHER – True worshippers “WILL WORSHIP THE FATHER” tells us that one can appear Christian in the outward form, and yet worship something and someone else. It is only good and appropriate for us to evaluate “WHOM” are we worshipping – also could be, “WHAT” are we worshipping. Let us take stock.

– WORSHIP IN SPIRIT – God, as the LORD Jesus expounds in the same passage, is a SPIRIT. God is Spirit, and not flesh and blood like you and me. He is not like man who falters and fails. He is not human who is finite and fickle. He is not like us, the ones created and sustained by God Himself. Do we realise and recognise this?

– WORSHIP IN TRUTH – God is the epitome of truth, and the personification of it. God is truth! TRUTH by virtue, is also an indicator of the presence of lie, which is counter-truth. Truth is all righteousness, and lie is all unrighteousness. *God who is the TRUTH, must be worshipped in truth. Our worship of our God should be honest, sincere and righteous.* How are we faring on this?

– “16 He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.” – 1 Timothy 6:16
– “6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice:” – Psalm 95:6-7
– “15 What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.” – 1 Corinthians 14:15
– “18 Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.” – Ephesians 6:18
– “18 The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call out to Him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18
– “16 Surely You desire truth in the inmost being; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.” – Psalm 51:6

Dear brothers and sisters, let us be desirous to be TRUE WORSHIPPERS of the LORD Jesus Christ, and WILL WORSHIP our FATHER in SPIRIT, and in TRUTH. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
